The Bioethics Committee of the Church of Greece was appointed on December 8, 1998. The objective of the Committee is twofold; on the one hand, it is to initiate in-depth study of contemporary bioethical problems from a scientific viewpoint based on the Orthodox ethos and theological perception of man, society and values; on the other hand, the Committee will aim to give answers that will express the position of the Orthodox Church of Greece to the questions and relevant dilemmas arising from bioethical issues.

FORMATION OF THE COMMITTEE

The Committee consists of nine members. It includes a representative of the Orthodox Church of Greece who chairs the Committee, three professors of Theology, three professors of Medicine, one professor of Biology or Genetics and one professor of Law. Eleven deputy members are also appointed who replace the regular members, in case they cannot attend a committee's meeting.
